Exterior Remodeling

Exterior Home Remodel in Fort Collins CO That Changes How Your House Show Up

Exterior Remodeling That Performs as Well as It Looks

Cosman Construction designs and builds exterior home remodels across Boulder, Larimer & Weld Counties — led by Alex Cosman, who is on every project from the first conversation through the final walkthrough.

Fort Collins homes take a specific kind of punishment — hail seasons that arrive without much warning, UV exposure significantly more intense at altitude than most product specs account for, and freeze-thaw cycles that find every weakness in a poorly installed exterior. We spec and build for those conditions specifically.

We handle the full exterior scope under one contract — Fortress Steel framing, composite decking built to WUI compliance standards, HardiePlank siding, custom deck building and outdoor structures, exterior painting, and window and door upgrades. Every project starts with a detailed design, a written scope, and a real estimate before anything gets built.

If you're considering interior changes alongside your exterior remodel, our interior remodeling and additions services can run in parallel. Homeowners across Fort Collins, Windsor, Loveland, Boulder, Louisville, Lafayette, Erie, Longmont, Firestone and the surrounding Front Range have trusted us with their most visible investment — and they come back because one team handling the full scope is a genuinely different experience. Schedule a conversation with Alex to get started.

What We Build

IMG_6410.jpeg

Fortress Steel Framing

Fortress Steel Framing Systems replace traditional wood substructures with a steel frame that won't rot, warp, split, or attract insects. Fortress Steel carries a Class A structural and fire resistance rating — engineered to last 50 years compared to a wood substructure rated for roughly 10. It's the substructure decision most homeowners never think to ask about, and the one that determines how long everything above it actually lasts.

Class A Composite Decking

For homes in Boulder County's Wildland Urban Interface zones, composite decking is a compliance requirement — not a preference. The wrong material choice means a failed inspection or real liability exposure. We spec and install quality composite decking that satisfies WUI requirements and handle the compliance research before design begins so you know exactly what your property requires.

Hardie Siding.jpeg

HardiePlank Siding

James Hardie fiber cement siding is one of the most durable cladding options for Colorado's climate — resistant to moisture, freeze-thaw cycling, UV degradation, and impact in a way that vinyl and wood simply aren't. Most siding failures in Colorado aren't product failures — they're installation failures. Improper flashing, incorrect fastening patterns, and skipped moisture barriers are what let Colorado weather in. We don't skip those steps.

Custom Deck Building & Structures

A custom deck built by Cosman Construction starts with a design that belongs to your home — proportions that fit the architecture, materials selected for your site's specific exposure, structural details built for Colorado's snow load. Same process and standard whether it's part of a full exterior remodel or a standalone project.

Painting.jpeg

Exterior Painting

Exterior paint in Colorado takes a beating. UV radiation at altitude breaks down finishes faster than most product warranties account for, and surface preparation matters more than the product you put on top of it. We handle prep, priming, and application with materials specified for Colorado conditions.

Window & Door Upgrades

Older windows are one of the most significant sources of heat loss in a Colorado home — single-pane and poorly sealed units work against your heating system every winter and your cooling every summer. We source and install energy-efficient packages that match your home's architectural character and leave every opening weathertight and properly sealed.

Why Hire a Design Build Company for Your Exterior Remodel

Most exterior remodeling projects above a certain scope require more than a contractor — they require design drawings for permitting, structural engineering for deck and framing systems, and in some cases civil engineering for grading or drainage. On a traditionally contracted project, hiring and coordinating those professionals falls on the homeowner.

With Cosman Construction, that coordination is handled for you. We work directly with architects, structural engineers, and civil engineers as needed — assembling the right team for your specific project and managing every professional relationship under one contract so the build matches what was designed.

Exterior Remodeling Starts Before Anyone Picks Up a Tool

Colorado exterior work has variables that interior projects don't — permit sequencing that affects material lead times, weather windows that determine when certain work can happen, and WUI compliance decisions that have to be made before design is finalized. We resolve every one of those variables upfront so the build moves on schedule regardless of what Colorado decides to do that week.

Step 1: Consultation & Design

Every exterior remodel starts with a site visit from Alex — assessing your home's current condition, identifying structural or compliance considerations, and understanding what you're trying to achieve before any design decisions are made. From there we produce a written scope and a real estimate so you know what the project includes and what it costs before you commit to anything.

Step 2: Project Begins

Once design is approved and permits are in hand, work begins on a defined schedule — demo, framing, cladding, painting, and finish details — each with a target date. Alex is reachable throughout, and any change that affects scope, timeline, or cost gets communicated before it affects the project.

Step 3: Project Completion

Alex walks the finished work against the original scope — every surface, every transition, every detail. Anything that doesn't meet standard gets corrected before your walkthrough. Permits closed, inspections handled. We're done when there's nothing left on the list.

A note on the design phase: You're not locked into completing construction with us. If you take the design we've produced and work with another contractor for the build, that's completely your call. If you choose to move forward with us, the design fee is credited toward the project cost.

The Cosman Construction Difference

Most exterior contractors in Boulder, Larimer & Weld Counties specialize in one trade — siding, or painting, or decking. A full exterior remodel handled that way means coordinating multiple companies, multiple schedules, and multiple people to hold accountable when something isn't right.

We handle the complete exterior scope under one contract. One design, one schedule, one person responsible for all of it — and that person is Alex, from the first site visit through the day the permit closes.

If your home's exterior needs a serious upgrade and you want it handled by someone who builds as carefully as they plan, we'd like to hear about it. We look forward to speaking with 303.775.6690
